NIH releases initial research plan for 'All of Us' project

The National Institutes of Health posted its initial research protocol for the All of Us Research Program online, according to a statement by the project's director, Eric Dishman.

The All of Us Research Program, which is part of the NIH's precision medicine initiative, aims to engage more than 1 million participants to share biological samples, genetic data and lifestyle information. The program — which will serve as a national research resource to inform future studies — launched its beta stage in June.

The 61-page research protocol, which was approved by the project's institutional review board, details plans related to project enrollment and data collection. For example, the protocol includes the first three online surveys the program investigators will use to collect participants' demographic, health and lifestyle information.

"This is just the first version of our protocol," Mr. Dishman wrote. "Many of our plans are still in development, and we'll update the protocol as things progress."

The All of Us Research Program plans to include additional surveys, eligibility criteria and wearable devices in future versions of the research protocol.
