Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers, N.Y., has opened a residential treatment facility for patients experiencing a psychiatric crisis.
The short-term facility opened Nov. 29 at St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester, a division of Saint Joseph's. The residence is meant to serve as an alternative to hospitalization for adult patients with acute mental healthcare needs on a voluntary basis, according to a news release shared with Becker's. In addition to private rooms, the facility features community spaces. It will be staffed by nurses, psychiatrists, peer specialists and case managers.
Officials with the hospital and state health department said the facility is the first of its kind in the region.
St. Vincent's offers inpatient and outpatient mental health, addiction and behavioral health services.
