A 61-year old man is in custody after he barricaded himself in a hospital room at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center, where his mother was a patient, and with a gun reportedly in the room, according to a March 27 WNYT report.
The incident sent the hospital into lockdown as a "code silver," the code for a possible active shooter, was initiated, the report said. The gun was later determined to be a BB gun, according to WNYT.
No shots were reported to have been fired, and all patients and staff were accounted for, Spectrum News reported March 27. The man allegedly threatened staff at the hospital, Spectrum News reported.
The investigation remains ongoing as of the time of the reports, and the lockdown on the facility was lifted. Both the man and his 97-year-old mother were being evaluated.
Albany Medical Center is a 766-bed hospital and the flagship of the Albany Med Health System, according to its website.
