Children's Hospital New Orleans has opened a new center to address concerns of child abuse.
Here are four things to know about the Morgan Rae Center for Hope, according to an Oct. 11 news release.
1. It will house the CARE Center and Child Advocacy Center, which includes services such as medical evaluations, trauma therapy, case management and forensic interviewing.
In 2023, the hospital addressed the medical needs of more than 1,400 children and conducted an additional 400 forensic interviews, the release said.
2. The hospital's child abuse program was launched in 1985 to provide medical care to victims at no cost to their families.
3. The expanded facility is 4,400 square feet and features a home-like design to provide comfort to patients, the release said. It includes consultation rooms, medical rooms, one procedure room, a multidisciplinary space for law enforcement partners, and a playground.
4. The $2.2 million project was funded through donations, including a $1.5 million gift from philanthropist Jessica Brandt, whose great-granddaughter the center is named after, according to the release.
