Geisinger program allows staff to test drive GM electric cars

Roughly 260 Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Medical Center employees were selected to test drive electric cars as part of a joint program between the hospital and General Motors, according to WNEP 16 News.

Here are three things to know:

1. More than 1,500 employees were entered into a lottery to test drive GM's Chevy Bolt for one week. Employees were asked to fill out a survey before and after their driving experience to discuss how their driving habits changed after driving an electric car.

2. During a presentation in front of Geisinger employees, Michael Ableson, vice president of electric vehicle charging for GM, discussed the important role reliable transportation plays in helping people live healthier lives.

"The ability to make convenient, reliable transportation available to get people to and from appointments I think is a big driver in helping people be healthier," he said.

3. As part of the monthlong program, Geisinger installed 10 electric charging stations at the Danville hospital campus. The charging stations will remain on campus after the program's conclusion.
