Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health and Miami-based Nicklaus Children’s Health System have shared plans to launch a strategic partnership to enhance pediatric care in Broward County (Fla.), according to a Nov. 21 news release.
Here are five things to know:
1. The affiliation agreement between the two parties was approved by the North Broward Hospital District boards. In early 2025, Broward Health and Nicklaus Children's will work to expand and enhance pediatric services, with a full integration of pediatric care offerings expected in the latter part of 2025.
2. About 16% of pediatric patients in the area have been forced to seek specialized care elsewhere. As part of the affiliation, experts in neurology, oncology, orthopedics and cardiology will be brought to the county and neighboring communities as part of the affiliation, Joe Nader, chair of the Nicklaus Children's Health System's board of directors, said in the release.
3. Both parties are committed to a seamless integration to ensure care is continued, with a full transition expected to be complete by late 2025.
4. Broward Health comprises five hospitals, two trauma centers, a partnership with Florida Atlantic University and more than 50 health centers and physician practices. It has more than 11,000 employees, the release said.
5. Nicklaus Children's Health System comprises Miami-based Nicklaus Children's Hospital, the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Foundation, nonprofit outpatient and urgent care centers, a physician practice subsidiary and an ambulatory surgery center, according to its website.
