Arizona hospital faces hazmat situation

Northwest Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., faced a "hazmat situation" Feb. 26.

NBC affiliate KVOA reported that the cause of the situation has been described as an odor coming from a malfunctioning piece of equipment near an ambulance bay.

It was initially reported that the hospital's emergency room was evacuated, but Veronica Apodaca, the director of marketing for Northwest Healthcare, told Becker's "the hospital was not evacuated," and "patient care was uninterrupted while the fire department determined an odor was being emitted from a piece of equipment that overheated."

According to KVOA, responding emergency crews were able to leave the scene last night.
