University of Chicago Medicine's heart transplant program was rated one of the best in the country for low heart transplant waits and high survival rates, according to an analysis of Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients data.
The July Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients report showed the following, according to an Oct. 4 news release from UChicago Medicine:
- The wait time for heart transplants fell to 0.7 months at UChicago Medicine, down from 1.1 months two years ago. The national average is 4.9 months.
- UChicago Medicine had a 100 percent survival rate in the past three report periods, putting it in the top 10 percent of transplant programs.
- The system is on track to perform 70 heart transplants in 2022, putting it in the top eight heart transplant programs in the country for volume.
