CMS proposes implantable pulmonary artery pressure sensor coverage: 5 notes

CMS has proposed coverage of implantable pulmonary artery pressure sensors for the management of heart failure.

Here are five things to know, according to an Oct. 30 memo from CMS:

  1. Abbott submitted a formal request for coverage in a 2022 letter. CMS conducted a public comment period on the request between April 30 and May 30, 2024.

  2. Implantable pulmonary artery pressure sensors are medical devices that measure blood pressure.

  3. In its proposed decision memo, CMS lists the patient, physician and study criteria that must be met for coverage.

  4. CMS is seeking public comment on the proposed decision until Nov. 29.

  5. CMS expects to make a national coverage analysis by Jan. 28.
