CMS has proposed coverage of implantable pulmonary artery pressure sensors for the management of heart failure.
Here are five things to know, according to an Oct. 30 memo from CMS:
- Abbott submitted a formal request for coverage in a 2022 letter. CMS conducted a public comment period on the request between April 30 and May 30, 2024.
- Implantable pulmonary artery pressure sensors are medical devices that measure blood pressure.
- In its proposed decision memo, CMS lists the patient, physician and study criteria that must be met for coverage.
- CMS is seeking public comment on the proposed decision until Nov. 29.
- CMS expects to make a national coverage analysis by Jan. 28.
