WVU Medicine to start $90M cancer project on shuttered hospital site

Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine is expected to spend between $75 million and north of $90 million in its rebuilding of a shuttered hospital campus into a new cancer center, according to an Oct. 25 report from The Intelligencer.

The Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, W.Va, closed its doors in September 2019 with the city taking ownership. Now, the keys are in the hands of the WVU health system after leasing and financing agreements were signed, and demolition of the site is expected to take place over the next 14 months.

The site is expected to transform into a cancer center catering to up to 50,000 patient visits annually, the report said.
