Pittsburgh-based UPMC Mercy broke ground March 14 on a nine-story rehabilitation and vision tower, according to TribLive.com.
The $400 million project will include four floors of clinical space and five floors dedicated to academic research. The tower will also feature a full-size model apartment, optical shop, pharmacy, therapy stations, a rehabilitation gym and a lab where patients can participate in life skills simulations.
"This new building will change the way vision and rehabilitation care is provided in the region, incorporating clinical and research excellence in an uncommon way," Michael Grace, president of UPMC Mercy, told the online newspaper. "UPMC Mercy is the last Catholic hospital in the region. The work that we do every day would not be possible without the support of our sponsoring partner the Diocese of Pittsburgh."
The tower is expected to be completed in 2022.
