Tennessee children's hospital unveils $75M NICU

East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville gave patients a sneak-peak of its $75 million addition Tuesday, named the Scripps Networks Tower, reports Knoxville News Sentinel.

The five-story facility features a neonatal intensive care unit with 44 private rooms and an inpatient and outpatient surgery center. Scripps Networks Interactive, a media firm in Knoxville, donated $10 million to the project, according to the article.

The neonatal wing aims to improve patient experience by offering patients and families privacy, personal care and modern aesthetics.

Hospital officials expect to totally complete facility renovations by fall 2017.

"I've been here for 24 years and I've worked in the current NICU so this is very exciting for me," Tracie Savage, nurse manager, told Knoxville News Sentinel. "Babies are going to have a natural day and night cycle and that's going to help with the brain development of those babies."
