Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare and Birmingham, Ala.-based Encompass Health have received a certificate of need to develop a freestanding, 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Loganville, Ga.
Once the hospital is complete, Piedmont plans to relocate its Piedmont Eastside Medical Center's 20-bed rehabilitation unit to the new facility, according to a March 7 Encompass Health news release.
The hospital will offer occupational, speech and physical therapies and 24-hour nursing care. It will also feature all private patient rooms, a therapy gym with rehabilitation technologies and daily activity areas like a therapy courtyard.
The facility will treat illnesses and injuries, including amputations, stroke and other neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, and brain and spinal cord injuries.
A private, nonprofit organization, Piedmont comprises 23 hospitals, 65 urgent care centers, 25 QuickCare locations and 1,875 physician practices. It has more than 44,000 employees, according to the release.
Encompass Health, the biggest rehabilitation hospital owner and operator in the U.S., comprises 160 hospitals across 37 states and Puerto Rico.
