Phoenix Children's Hospital is to build a 44,000-square-foot neonatal intensive care unit on its expanding Thomas campus.
The unit, which will replace the current NICU, will be a level 4 designated facility, indicating the highest level of medical care available for newborns with complex conditions. It is scheduled to open in 2024 and will have 48 private rooms including sleeper couches for parents and caregivers.
The unit will complement a level 3B NICU at the system's Gilbert campus.
Phoenix Children's is undergoing a number of new expansion projects, including two new hospitals opening this year.
