Ohio system's $102M expansion plan faces further delays

Marietta, Ohio-based Memorial Health System is facing further delays to its Athens expansion project because of extended approval required from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to a March 15 filing.

While the four-story project was originally set for "substantial completion" by the first quarter of 2024, that has now been set back to the end of the second quarter or beginning of the third. Only occupancy of the first floor will occur in the first quarter of 2024, the filing said.

The $102 million project, which will include a freestanding emergency department, clinics and an ambulatory surgical center, was originally reported in late December 2021. At that time, the emergency department was due to open in July 2022, but a spokesperson for the health system said that project has only broken ground so far.
