New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals plans to build three community healthcare centers that will provide comprehensive, one-stop ambulatory care services to patients in underserved communities.
The expansion builds on the health system's commitment to expanding patient access to primary care.
The health system's board of directors approved the proposals Oct. 25. Combined, the centers will occupy more than 100,000-square-feet and will cost $82 million to build. They are set to open in 2021.
"Primary care and the other community-based services that these centers will provide are the foundation of our patient-centered approach and the growth engine of our financial sustainability plan," said Mitchell Katz, MD, president and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals. "It's exciting to design and build new healthcare facilities from the ground up and in convenient locations that will make it easy for families to access the health care they need without having to leave their neighborhoods."
The new health centers will offer several medical services, including pediatric and adult primary care, women’s health, behavioral health, dental services, screening exams, radiology and optometry. The centers may also offer full-service pharmacies.
The centers will be located across New York City. The neighborhoods selected were Bushwick, located in Brooklyn; Jackson Heights located in the Queens; and Tremont, located in the Bronx.
