Michigan Medicine cancer center gifted $50M: 4 things to know

Ann Arbor, Mich.-based the University of Michigan Health Rogel Cancer Center, part of Michigan Medicine, has received a $50 million donation.

Four things to know: 

1. Richard and Susan Rogel provided the funds to create the Rogel and Blondy Center for Pancreatic Cancer, which will support research and clinical care for Rogel Cancer Center's 60 doctors and scientists across 10 area departments, according to an Oct. 30 news release.

2. The donation will also accelerate new treatment options and invest in infrastructure such as research technologies and a biobank. 

3. "Philanthropy has been a driving force behind our major advancements in pancreatic cancer. Our work will be a community success story," Marschall Runge, MD, PhD, CEO of Michigan Medicine and dean of the U-M Medical School, said in the release. "The faster we grow our program, the faster we can advance understanding of pancreas cancer and new approaches to save lives."

4. Michigan Medicine comprises 11 hospitals, hundreds of clinics, U-M Medical School and University of Michigan Health.
