The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute opened at McLaren Port Huron (Mich.) Monday, less than one year after construction commenced.
The 15,000-square-foot facility includes 12 functional chemotherapy infusion bays, as well as consult spaces for treatment planning, examination and follow-up care. A total of 22 infusion bays will be functional by the end of 2018.
Other current enhancements include a linear accelerator that delivers radiation therapy precisely to tumors, genetic counseling and testing, cancer trials and team-based cancer services. Radiation therapy for all cancers will be available in August.
The facility is one of 15 Karmanos cancer treatment centers in Michigan.
