Mayo to open Wisconsin hospital this fall

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic is on track to open a $198 million hospital at its La Crosse, Wis., campus this fall, WEAU reported Feb. 28.

The hospital was initially set to open with 70 beds, but Mayo recently decided to add 24 more beds, upping the total to 96, according to the La Crosse Tribune.

The six-floor facility will replace the current hospital on the campus. Features and services will include:

  • A surgical and procedural floor integrated with the current operating rooms, housing pre- and post-surgery recovery rooms
  • Endoscopy suites
  • Cardiac catheterization labs and interventional radiology
  • Medical-surgical units
  • Flexible ICU and progressive care unit
  • Family birth center
  • Shell space for future growth

The hospital project is part of a $1 billion capital investment earmarked, which includes an expansion of hospitals in Mankato, Minn., and Jacksonville, Fla., and will double the size of Mayo's Phoenix campus.

The health system reported $1,1 billion in operating income in 2023, compared to $595 million in 2022 and $1.2 billion in 2021.

Mayo includes 16 hospitals and 44 multispecialty clinics, among other care sites, that serve communities across southern Minnesota, western Wisconsin and northern Iowa.
