Northern Light hospital gets $16M to cover temporary staffing costs

Bangor-based Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center received $16 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the cost of hiring temporary staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, Maine Public Radio reported May 2.

The payment reimburses the hospital for staff hired between September 2021 and May 2022.

In January, the health system cut back services as it was faced with financial challenges.
