The Damien Center in Indianapolis, a care center for those living with HIV, will triple its size in a $30 million expansion project, the Indy Star reported Sept. 12.
The center is in Marion County, which was on the federal government's list of "50 hot spots for HIV" four years ago, according to the publication. With the expansion, the center hopes to not only help more patients, but provide more services and prevention measures. It will also help in cutting down waitlists for services and care for patients.
Currently, the center has an estimated $11 million to $12 million for the expansion. It has launched a $4 million capital campaign and was gifted $500,000 from the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation.
The center will go from 15,000 to 56,000 square feet after the expansion. It will need to hire between 50 and 60 additional staff members, according to the publication.
Construction is slated to begin in March 2023 and wrap in late fall of 2024.
