Idaho Falls to get 88-bed community hospital after public outcry

A community's outcry for more choices in emergency and inpatient care is bringing a new 88-bed hospital and emergency room to Idaho Falls next year, according to the Post Register.

Idaho Falls Community Hospital will offer emergency services, intensive care and inpatient care. The hospital will be staffed with 300 physicians and more than 200 nurses and support staff.

The hospital will be built next to Idaho Falls-based Mountain View Hospital. The two facilities will operate as separate organizations.

According to the Post Register, Mountain View Hospital is legally prohibited from expanding in Idaho, but one of Mountain View Hospital's investors decided to build a separate facility.

Mountain View Hospital is physician-owned with 275 providers in 35 specialties.

"This is the next chapter of healthcare in Idaho Falls," said Greg West, MD, a founding physician of Mountain View Hospital. “We built Mountain View Hospital because we realized things needed to be done differently. Prices needed to be lower, healthcare needed to be more collaborative at all levels, and we wanted to ensure our patients were put first. Idaho Falls Community Hospital will follow these same principles and philosophies in care."
