Highland Hospital to add 60 rooms: 4 things to know

As part of a modernization project of its southeast wing, Rochester, N.Y.-based Highland Hospital plans to add four floors and 60 private rooms, according to a WHEC news report.

Here are four things to know:

1. The main focus of the project is the transition to private patient rooms. Currently, only half of Highland's beds are in private rooms.

2. The private rooms "will offer numerous benefits to patients —from the reduced risk of hospital-acquired infections, to the positive therapeutic impact of more privacy and less noise during recovery," Cindy Becker, Highland Hospital's vice president and COO, told

3. Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2020 and end in the spring of 2022.

4. The City of Rochester must approve the hospital's application for construction to move forward.
