Trident Health plans to build a $15 million freestanding emergency department on the campus of its proposed hospital on Johns Island, S.C.
Five months ago, the Charleston, S.C.-based health system shared plans to build its third acute care hospital on Johns Island. The project is expected to cost $270 million and add 50 beds to Trident Health's enterprise.
Construction on the emergency department is slated to begin by the end of 2024 on the site of the proposed Johns Island Hospital, according to a March 5 news release shared with Becker's. The facility will include 11 patient rooms, in-house diagnostic labs, advanced imaging, and stroke and behavioral health telemedicine services.
Johns Island Emergency will be Trident Health's fifth freestanding emergency facility. HCA Healthcare — the system's Nashville, Tenn.-based parent company — has also been heavily investing in freestanding emergency departments.
