Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 1 to ring in the opening of the new emergency department at Hackensack UMC-Pascack Valley in Westwood, N.J., according to The Press Group.
After a year of construction, the new ED will open Sept. 14.
While transitioning to the new ED, the hospital will continue to provide emergency services in the department's current location, which is in the rear of the facility.
"Not only is it in a new location, which is the appropriate location — in the front of the hospital — but it truly is state-of-the-art with private rooms, about twice as large as the old ER department," said Robert C. Garrett, co-CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health, according to the report.
The 22,240-square-foot ED is comprised of "new renovated space" and rooms that are designed to facilitate greater efficiency.
