In October, Middletown, Ohio-based Atrium Medical Center will begin construction on a new natural birth center, according to the Dayton Business Journal.
Natural Beginnings Birth Center will offer expectant mothers a holistic model of care. Offerings include childbirth education classes, as well as board-certified obstetricians and certified nurse midwives on staff. Mothers will deliver in a home-like setting, which includes a queen bed, a jacuzzi, a family sitting area and a refrigerator.
"We're really trying to make this as similar to delivering at home as possible, not only when it comes to delivering the baby naturally, but also when it comes to the atmosphere and family involvement," said Atrium Medical Center CNO Betty Love, according to the report.
The $1.4 million project includes renovations on the waiting area of Atrium's Family Birth Center, according to the Dayton Daily News.
AtriumMedicalCenter is operated by Dayton, Ohio-based Premier Health. Natural Beginnings is the second natural birth center operated by Premier. Its other center, Family Beginnings, opened in 1995 at Dayton-based Miami Valley Hospital.
