9 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Nine hospitals or health systems announced, started or completed construction projects in the last week:

1. $119M South Carolina hospital to open Oct. 4
Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital, a $119 million, 50-bed facility in South Carolina, opened to patients Oct. 4.

2. Houston Methodist begins $250M expansion
Houston Methodist The Woodlands (Texas) broke ground Sept. 27 on its new $250 million patient tower.

3. Abrazo Health opens neighborhood hospital
Phoenix-based Abrazo Health opened a neighborhood hospital in Mesa, Ariz., Oct. 1. 

4. Washington State University Health wants to build virtual hospital
Washington State University Health Sciences in Spokane is eyeing an expansion that includes building a virtual hospital and expanded capacity to conduct clinical research. 

5. California hospital prepping for $125M expansion
French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif., part of Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health network, is preparing for its $125 million campus expansion.

6. Lehigh Valley Health Network gets greenlight to build 80-acre campus
Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network has secured approval to build a hospital campus on 80 acres of land in Bethlehem, Pa.

7. Indiana hospital investing in 4 standalone ERs, urgent care centers
Noblesville, Ind.-based Riverview Health broke ground on its latest of four planned standalone emergency room and urgent care facilities.

8. Michigan hospital building 7 primary care sites
Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Bronson Methodist Hospital is building seven primary care locations in the state.

9. U of New Mexico plans $400M medical tower
University of New Mexico in Albuquerque plans to build a $400 million medical tower.
