Mountain States Health Alliance Saves $650M Though Capacity-Improving Transfer Center

Mountain States Health Alliance, a 13-hospital health system based out of Johnson City, Tenn., has announced net revenue contribution margin totals of more than $650 million since 1995 as a result of implementing a transfer center to improve patient flow, according to patient flow-improvement software company Central Logic.

Implementing a transfer center — and later implementing software solutions to streamline center operations — has had six key ROI benefits for MSHA over the past 19 years, including:

  • Quick and accurate patient admissions
  • Reliability and ease of access to patient data for providers
  • Reduced emergency department congestion
  • Better reporting and management of business- and operations-related data
  • Enhanced local market shares for MSHA hospitals
  • More patients retained within MHSA's system
  • Increased admissions and higher generation of revenue
