Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston had to call upon the Boston Police Department, Boston Transportation Department and the Massachusetts State Police to clear major traffic congestion around the hospital on Tuesday.
Due to the traffic jam, ambulance vehicles experienced trouble entering and exiting the hospital garages and many patients were late for scheduled appointments.
To alleviate the congestion and ensure proper staffing levels, the hospital asked all employees who couldn't leave work on foot or via public transportation to remain at the hospital until the roads had begun to clear.
This hospital expects to experience further possible delays Wednesday morning during a parade for the New England Patriots to celebrate their Super Bowl victory.
