25 States With the Highest Rate of ER Visits

Here is a list of the 25 states with the highest emergency room visits per 1,000 population in 2010, based on data from the 2010 American Hospital Association Survey reported by Kaiser State Health Facts.

The data are for community hospitals, which AHA defines as nonfederal, short-term general and specialty hospitals whose facilities and services are available to the public. These hospitals account for 85 percent of all hospitals, according to Kaiser State Health Facts.
