UPMC Plans Expansion Into China

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is planning to expand into China through cancer treatment centers and other health-related programs, according to a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review report.

UPMC began discussions with Chinese officials less than a year ago and have identified potential projects in Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou. Potential ventures involve working with academic hospitals or private healthcare hospitals, according to the report.

This would not be UPMC's first international expansion: it already operates a specialized hospital and organ transplant center in Sicily and plans to open cancer centers in Europe and the Middle East, according to the report.
