Cleveland Clinic to Help Hospital System Market Medical Inventions

The Cleveland Clinic will help doctors at MedStar Health, a nine-hospital system in the Washington, D.C., area, turn their ideas into marketable inventions, according to a report by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The deal is between MedStar and Cleveland Clinic Innovations, which has spun off 35 new businesses from the clinic since it was founded 10 years ago and now has a staff of 36.

The arrangement may lead to other collaborative efforts among doctors, engineers and other employees from both organizations to solve medical problems, improve treatment and advance medical education.

In exchange, MedStar will pay Cleveland Clinic an undisclosed service fee to cover the costs of bringing experts on-site.
