Here are 12 ASCs recently opened or under construction by hospitals or health systems.
1. Vail, Colo.-based Vail Valley Medical Center broke ground in March on a new ambulatory surgery center in Edwards, Colo. The new ASC, which will feature four operating rooms, is expected to be completed next spring.
2. In March, Lebanon (Pa.) VA Medical Center began construction on a new ambulatory surgery center in Lebanon. The $12 million ASC, which will feature four OR suites and two endoscopy suites, is part of ongoing expansion at the hospital.
3. Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua announced in March it will be building a new ambulatory care center in Vorhees, N.J., which features a surgical center for same-day surgery. Virtua expects the ambulatory care center to open in spring 2012.
4. Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center announced in March plans to open a new outpatient surgery center in June. The new surgery center is included in a new medical office building on the Jersey City Medical Center campus.
5. In February, Sisters of Mercy Health System, based in Chesterfield, Mo., broke ground on a new healthcare facility in Edmond, Okla., which will feature an outpatient surgery center. The $88 million, 200,000-square-foot facility will also include a walk-in clinic, wellness center, imaging/women's center and sports rehab.
6. In February, University Medical Center in Lebanon, Tenn., announced the opening of its new freestanding outpatient surgery center. The Surgery Center at UMC contains 14,124 square feet, four operating room suites, seven holding bays and 13 recovery bays.
7. Boise, Idaho-based Saint Alphonsus Health System announced in February it will be opening a new outpatient surgery center, which is scheduled to open this summer at Saint Alphonsus Health Plaza in Nampa, Idaho.
8. In February, construction has been completed on a new same-day surgery center within Rush Oak Park (Ill.) Hospital. The 10,000-square-foot space for the Same Day Surgery Center was previously used for administrative work.

11. Nationwide Children's Hospital, based in Columbus, Ohio, is schedule to start construction on a new outpatient surgery center in Westerville, Ohio, this month. Nationwide Children's Westerville Surgery Center is scheduled to open in early 2012.
