Noridian to Allow Cataract Anesthesia Payments

Medicare Part B carrier Noridian overturned its decision to deny payment for monitored cataract anesthesia without proven medical necessity, according to the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society.

After denying several providers payment, Noridian retracted the decision, saying it was an error, according to OOSS. Noridian — which is the Medicare carrier for Alaska, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming — said the policy was never intended to limit cataract payments and apologized for the confusion.
