The National Institute on Drug Abuse recently released several teaching tools to physicians to improve identification and treatment of patients suffering from substance abuse, according to an Anesthesiology News report.
The teaching tools include a clinical examination from Boston University School of Medicine on opioid risk management, a lecture presentation from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Services in Grand Forks on how to broach sensitive subjects with patients and a lecture developed by Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., that introduces medical students to methamphetamine abuse and dependence.
The NIDA offers these tools in multiple formats. Physicians and medical students can take advantage of a Web-based module, a clinical examination, case studies, lectures and a faculty workshop, among others.
