Via Christi Health Vying for Medicare ACO

Wichita, Kan.-based Via Christi Health has applied to become a Medicare Shared Savings Program accountable care organization, according to a Wichita Business Journal report.

The system has taken small steps to improve community health through employee health and wellness programs and the use of electronic medical records, according to the report. Via Christi would like to take those improvement efforts to a larger population through an ACO.

To apply to become a MSSP ACO, Via Christi created Via Christi Health Alliance in Accountable Care, Inc., a new corporation, according to the report.

If Via Christi is accepted into the Medicare program, it will become an official Medicare ACO Jan. 1, 2014.
