San Diego-based Sharp Community Medical Group, an independent practice association with more than 700 participating physicians, and Aetna have announced an accountable care collaboration.
Under the agreement, SCMG physicians will provide better coordinated care to Aetna members, and Aetna will reward the physicians for improving the health quality and satisfaction of its members under a new reimbursement model. Aetna members in commercial preferred provider organization plans who seek care at SCMG will become part of the accountable care model.
"Under this exciting new program, Aetna PPO patients will now have the opportunity to have their personal doctor help them navigate the often-confusing array of healthcare options and ensure better overall coordination of care," John Jenrette, MD, CEO and CMO of SCMG, said in the news release.
