Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Spectrum Health is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, keeping approximately 3.2 million pounds of garbage out of landfills through various recycling and reprocessing initiatives. Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital received Practice Greenhealth's Greenhealth Emerald Award in 2017 for its efforts to reduce waste and conserve energy. The hospital's sustainable practices extend to staff members as well, with an initiative to eliminate the use of Keurig coffee cups and instead use Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance-certified coffees. The hospital also offers premium parking for carpoolers and computer monitors with automatic power-down functions, which saves 225 kilowatt-hours of energy and $33,000 per year. Blodgett Hospital recycles around 1,700 tons of materials every year and hosted an electronics recycling event in 2016 which lead to recycling 45,000 pounds of home electronics.
