The 619-bed University of California, Davis Medical Center was ranked one of the best hospitals for orthopedics for 2014-15 by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital's department of orthopedic surgery is housed in the UC Davis Trauma Center, offering operative and nonoperative specialty services including orthopedic oncology, pediatric orthopedics, spinal disorders and hand, upper extremity and microvascular surgery. The department's 8,000-square-foot Lawrence J. Ellison Musculoskeletal Research Center focuses on skeletal molecular biology research, and UC Davis also has a designated spine center and sports medicine program. The medical center is a Blue Distinction Center for knee and hip replacement, a Blue Distinction Center Plus for spine surgery and is designated as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
