Gary Kaplan, MD. Chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Health System (Seattle). Dr. Kaplan has served as chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Health System since 2000. In addition to his executive duties, he practices internal medicine at the health system. Dr. Kaplan is a founding member of Health CEOs for Health Reform, a diverse national coalition of healthcare industry leaders committed to establishing sustainable universal health coverage for all, and has held leadership positions with numerous other organizations, including the Medical Group Management Association and the Washington Healthcare Forum. He is also the chair of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Board of Directors and chairman of the National Patient Safety Foundation Lucian Leape Institute.
