University Hospitals Case Medical Center (Cleveland). Surgeons in the Total Joint Replacement Division at University Hospitals Case Medical Center were among the first in the world to perform total hip replacement surgery in 1969. Today, Case Medical Center's board-certified joint replacement surgeons perform more than 1,100 joint replacements annually. The Case Research Institute, the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals of Cleveland recently committed approximately $1.2 million to develop a clinical research center in the orthopedics department. The hospital was ranked among the nation's top 50 hospitals for orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report for 2016-17.
