In 2016, Tufts Medical Center surgeons performed 56 successful heart transplants, among the top 10 U.S. hospitals with the most heart transplants last year and a significant increase from 19 heart transplants in 2015. The Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Center at Tufts Medical Center provides simple and complex cardiology services and supports the CardioVascular Center dedicated to research and clinical trials, and participates in the Molecular Cardiology Research Institute, examining molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular disease. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association recognized Tufts Medical Center as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.
