Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, Tenn.)
Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute became the first heart program in the state to implant the HeartWare ventricular assist system as a bridge to transplantation in 2013, only months after the system earned Food and Drug Administration approval. U.S. News & World Report ranked Vanderbilt University Medical Center as the No. 1 hospital in Tennessee and the No. 29 hospital in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery in its 2016-17 rankings. Truven also named the medical center to its 2016 list of 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals. Vanderbilt University Medical Center earned Magnet-accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a Blue Distinction Center+ for Cardiac Care.
