UnityPoint Allen Hospital (Waterloo, Iowa). UnityPoint Allen's experience in open heart surgery dates back to 1982, when the hospital was first in Northwest Iowa authorized to perform that type of procedure. Today, UnityPoint Allen surgeons have performed more than 4,000 open heart surgeries. In addition to that capability, the hospital includes an accredited chest pain center and pediatric cardiology services. Blue Cross Blue Shield has named Allen Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center+ for Cardiac Care, and Healthgrades has given Allen Hospital its Coronary Intervention Excellence Award two years in a row, most recently in 2015.
