UC San Diego Medical Center. The only academic health system in San Diego, UC San Diego Medical Center opened a comprehensive heart hospital in 2011, the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. The hospital provides both inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular care and was ranked in the top 25 cardiology and heart surgery programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16. Its safe, high-quality cardiac care earned it designation as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care in 2015. UCSD is also a Magnet-designated hospital.
