Its heart and vascular program is among the highest-volume heart and vascular programs in the nation. The Magnet-recognized hospital also has been a pioneer in heart care: It was the site of the first private hospital cardiac transplant in the world, and was the first to invent and develop an implantable cardioverter. IU Health was ranked No. 47 in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16, tying with Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee. U.S. News & World Report also recognized the hospital as high-performing for heart failure and heart bypass surgery in its common care ratings. IU Health is also designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care.
