Barnes-Jewish Hospital (St. Louis). Each year, the care teams at Barnes-Jewish and Washington University Heart & Vascular Center perform approximately 1,200 major cardiac procedures. Since Barnes-Jewish Hospital established its heart transplant program in 1985, surgeons have completed more than 500 transplants with survival rates exceeding national averages. The center is also home to one of only 20 teams in the country capable of implanting a temporary artificial heart. U.S. News & World Report ranked Barnes-Jewish as one of the top 15 hospitals in the country for adult cardiology and heart surgery in 2015.
