Surgeons and care teams at Advocate Heart Institute at Christ Medical Center perform more than 1,300 open heart surgeries each year — more than any other hospital in Illinois. The hospital is also home to the most high-volume ventricular assist device programs in the state, as surgeons implant more than 100 VADs each year for critical patients in need of intervention before a donor is available. The Magnet-designated hospital was ranked No. 23 in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16. Advocate Christ is also recognized as a Designated Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care.
