Sixteen physicians specializing in neurological and spine care compose the Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center's neuroscience services. In 2016, neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons performed 2,420 cases overall — including 1,150 spine surgery cases — at the medical center, which earned the Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery designation. CareChex also recognized the hospital with a No. 1 ranking in South Carolina for neurological care in 2018. The hospital plans to further grow its neurosurgery and spine programs with a new musculoskeletal institute that will offer outpatient spine surgery and a robotic spine surgical suite, slated to open in 2019.
