For the tenth consecutive year, Tampa General Hospital was ranked one of the best in the country for orthopedics for 2014-15 by U.S. News & World Report. In 2012, the hospital's providers performed more than 5,500 orthopedic procedures. Tampa General Hospital features a 30-bed orthopedic trauma care unit and a 25-bed joint center unit. The joint center at Tampa General Hospital provides "mini-incision" joint replacement for applicable hip and knee replacement candidates, a procedure that does not require the surgeon to cut through the muscle. The joint center also features an in-unit physical therapy space. Additionally, both the orthopedic trauma unit and the joint center have dedicated occupational and physical therapists. Tampa General Hospital is designated as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
